Job Description

Overview
We are partnering with a well-established organization in the maritime sector to appoint a senior engineering leader responsible for overseeing fleet engineering operations, technical strategy, and asset performance. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced professional to drive engineering excellence, modernization, and long-term operational capability.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary engineering team, including managers, superintendents, and technical specialists, to deliver strong performance and business outcomes.
  • Build a high-performing culture centered on safety, professionalism, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive succession planning, workforce capability building, and leadership development across the engineering function.

Technical & Asset Management

  • Oversee all maintenance, repair, and overhaul programs to ensure fleet reliability, safety, cost efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Review asset performance, failure trends, and technical risks, ensuring timely corrective actions and sustainable long-term solutions.
  • Lead engineering support for vessel lifecycle management, including upgrades, retrofits, refurbishments, and dry-docking programs.

Projects & Innovation

  • Manage major capital projects such as newbuilds, fleet expansion, refurbishment, and modernization initiatives.
  • Oversee design reviews, commissioning activities, testing, and operational readiness processes.
  • Champion innovation, digitalization, automation, and emerging technologies to improve fleet efficiency and future readiness.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Operations, Safety, Finance, Procurement, and other internal stakeholders to strengthen end-to-end processes and improve overall efficiency.
  • Work with commercial and business development teams to support technical aspects of new opportunities, market expansion, and integrated solutions.

Commercial & Vendor Management

  • Drive cost optimization initiatives while maintaining service reliability and operational uptime.
  • Manage external vendors, contractors, and strategic suppliers to ensure quality delivery and supply chain resilience.

Sustainability & Future Readiness

  • Lead engineering initiatives related to sustainability, decarbonization, energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and alternative fuel readiness.
  • Ensure the organization remains aligned with future industry regulations and environmental standards.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent the engineering function with regulatory authorities, classification bodies, industry partners, and academic institutions as required.
  • Lead special assignments and strategic initiatives as delegated by senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience managing engineering operations for a fleet of vessels or equivalent asset-heavy environment.
  • Strong background working with shipyards, repair facilities, or large-scale maintenance environments.
  • Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial awareness with experience in budgeting, cost control, and project execution.
  • Exposure to fleet modernization, digital transformation, or sustainability initiatives is highly advantageous.
