Data Engineer (Python / Backend) | Contract

Overview
We are seeking a Data Engineer to support the development, validation, and governance of data pipelines and algorithm-driven services within a clinical technology product. This role focuses on ensuring reliable data processing, implementing robust unit testing frameworks, and supporting data quality and reproducibility across analytics workflows.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering, QA, DevOps, and business teams to build scalable backend solutions, strengthen data validation processes, and support analytics capabilities that drive product insights.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement comprehensive unit tests across data ingestion pipelines, feature engineering workflows, and algorithmic services.
• Develop testing frameworks to validate inputs and outputs of algorithmic pipelines, including verification of black-box machine learning models.
• Establish and maintain test execution workflows integrated into the product release lifecycle.
• Implement mechanisms to archive and snapshot algorithm inputs and outputs to ensure reproducibility, traceability, and auditability.
• Work closely with frontend, QA, and DevOps teams to communicate data validation and testing requirements.
• Support business and analytics teams by troubleshooting data quality, validation, and reporting issues.
• Contribute to analytics related to data completeness, user engagement metrics, and algorithm-driven actions.
• Ensure backend systems and data services meet reliability, scalability, and performance standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Analytics, or a related discipline.

• Minimum 2+ years of experience in backend development, data engineering, or analytics platform development.
• Solid experience with Python backend development and writing unit tests for data pipelines or services.
• Good understanding of data validation, algorithm testing, and data quality management.
• Experience working in healthcare, regulated environments, or data-sensitive industries is good to have.

• Backend Frameworks: Django, FastAPI, Wagtail, Django REST Framework (DRF)
• Databases: PostgreSQL, DocumentDB, Valkey
• Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS, Docker, OpenSearch
• Testing: Python unittest or similar testing frameworks
