Platforms Operations Engineer

Role Summary

As a Platform Operations Engineer, you will design, build, and operate secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure platforms that power mission-critical government digital services. You will work across cloud and on-premises environments, leveraging automation, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code to ensure reliability, performance, and security.

This role requires strong technical depth, operational discipline, and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Infrastructure Design & Implementation

• Design and implement scalable, highly available infrastructure solutions across cloud (e.g., AWS) and on-premises environments.

• Architect infrastructure to support production-grade digital services with strong reliability and security posture.

• Contribute to infrastructure standards and reference architectures.

2. Automation & Infrastructure-as-Code

• Develop and maintain automation scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for deployment, monitoring, and operational tasks.

• Implement Infrastructure-as-Code using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.

• Drive CI/CD integration for infrastructure provisioning.

3. Container & Platform Management

• Implement and manage containerization technologies (Docker).

• Deploy and operate orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes).

• Ensure platform stability, scalability, and resource efficiency.

4. Reliability, Performance & Operations

• Monitor system performance and optimize for reliability and scalability.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure incidents.

• Participate in capacity planning and resource optimization.

• Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

5. Security & Governance

• Implement security best practices across infrastructure layers.

• Conduct regular security reviews, patch management, and compliance checks.

• Contribute to infrastructure-related policies, governance frameworks, and operational procedures.

6. Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work closely with application, DevOps, cybersecurity, and operations teams.

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

• Communicate technical solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

7. Continuous Learning & Innovation

• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.

• Proactively identify opportunities to improve platform efficiency and resilience.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline.

Experience

• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in infrastructure engineering, cloud engineering, or similar roles.

• Hands-on experience managing production infrastructure environments.

Technical Competencies

• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).

• Experience with on-premises infrastructure (servers, virtualization, networking).

• Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell).

• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).

• Familiarity with container technologies (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).

• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, firewalls).

• Knowledge of infrastructure security best practices and compliance standards.

Preferred Certifications

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect or equivalent cloud certification.

• Relevant infrastructure or security certifications are advantageous.
