Opportunity for Contract to Perm role

We are seeking a hands-on and technically strong Backend Systems Engineer to support and maintain mission-critical backend infrastructure and integrated security systems in a high-security operational environment.

This role is ideal for engineers with strong Linux/Windows backend configuration experience, system hardening expertise, and a passion for troubleshooting complex infrastructure and security-related systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, test, configure, and implement backend systems according to technical specifications and service level requirements

• Ensure systems are deployed in compliance with industry best practices and security standards

• Manage system changes through formal change management processes, including impact assessment, approvals, implementation, and stakeholder communication

• Conduct root cause analysis for system incidents and implement preventive and corrective actions

• Develop and maintain service continuity measures including:

  • Backup & restoration procedures

  • Disaster recovery planning

  • System recovery validation

• Provide technical consultation and guidance to customers, project teams, and stakeholders

• Perform backend server configuration and setup for Linux and Windows environments

• Execute CIS hardening for Windows and Linux servers

• Configure and manage:

  • Linux user access and sudo privileges

  • SSH security settings (sshd_config)

  • Password policies and controls (passwd, chage)

  • Server restoration using REAR

• Perform basic computer systems and network maintenance

• Support troubleshooting of integrated security platforms including:

  • PSIM (Physical Security Information Management)

  • CCTV surveillance systems

  • Access control systems

  • Alarm & intrusion systems

  • Network infrastructure

Requirements

Technical Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience in backend system configuration and setup

• Good working knowledge of Linux and Windows server administration

• Experience performing CIS hardening and server security configuration

• Familiarity with Linux access control, SSH configuration, and password management

• Experience in backup, restoration, and disaster recovery operations

• Good troubleshooting and analytical skills

• Basic networking and infrastructure support knowledge

Good to Have

• Experience supporting PSIM platforms

• Exposure to CCTV, access control, and security surveillance environments

• Experience working in secure or mission-critical operational environments

Educational Qualification

• Nitec / Higher Nitec / Diploma / Degree in:

  • Information Technology (IT)

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Electronics Engineering

  • Or other related disciplines from a recognized institution

Soft Skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Strong problem-solving mindset with attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within project teams
