Network Security Engineer - Firewall

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Firewall Engineer to design, implement, and maintain our organization's firewall infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in firewall technologies, network security principles, and threat mitigation strategies to protect our IT environment from cyber threats. This role involves configuring firewall policies, monitoring security events, and collaborating with IT teams to ensure robust network security.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage firewall solutions to safeguard the organization’s network perimeter and internal segments.
• Configure and maintain firewall rules, policies, and access controls based on security best practices and business requirements.
• Monitor firewall logs and alerts to detect and respond to security incidents or anomalies.
• Conduct regular firewall audits, vulnerability assessments, and compliance checks.
• Collaborate with network, security, and IT teams to troubleshoot firewall-related issues and optimize network security posture.
• Stay updated on emerging firewall technologies, cyber threats, and industry trends to recommend improvements.
• Develop and maintain documentation related to firewall configurations, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in incident response activities and support forensic investigations related to firewall events.
• Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and other IT staff on firewall management and security protocols.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Proven experience (3+ years) in firewall administration and network security.
• Strong knowledge of firewall platforms such as Palo Alto Networks, Cisco ASA/Firepower, Fortinet, Check Point, or similar.
• Proficiency in network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/S, DNS, etc.) and security concepts (VPN, IDS/IPS, NAT, etc.).
• Experience with firewall rule base management, policy creation, and change control processes.
• Familiarity with security frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, PCI-DSS).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, Palo Alto PCNSE, Cisco CCNP Security, or Fortinet NSE are a plus.
• Excellent communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
