12 Month contract - Senior Linux Administrator – OpenShift & Automation

Our consulting client is delivering a strategic infrastructure transformation initiative and is seeking a senior Linux engineer with strong OpenShift, VMware, and automation expertise.

Assignment Scope

This role will support the modernization of enterprise container platforms, including transitioning workloads from VMware based virtual environments to optimized bare metal infrastructure. The consultant will embed Infrastructure as Code, Git driven workflows, and automated provisioning standards to enable scalable and repeatable platform operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and implement Infrastructure as Code standards using Git based version control and declarative automation models

• Design automated build pipelines for provisioning physical servers, including OS imaging, configuration baselines, and cluster bootstrap

• Lead migration of OpenShift Container Platform workloads from VMware virtual machines to dedicated bare metal clusters

• Optimize hybrid environments integrating VMware estates with container platforms

• Architect high availability cluster designs with automated node scaling and lifecycle management

• Integrate observability tooling including Prometheus, Grafana, and centralized log aggregation

• Implement Linux hardening, automated patch cycles, and compliance validation

• Automate network configuration including VLAN segmentation, routing, DNS, and load balancing

• Support Oracle database deployments across Linux and OpenShift environments

Experience Profile

• Strong background in enterprise Linux administration within complex production environments

• Significant hands on experience with OpenShift or Kubernetes cluster deployment and migration

• Proven VMware experience including virtualization architecture and workload migration strategies

• Advanced automation expertise using Ansible, Terraform, GitOps frameworks such as ArgoCD or Flux

• Experience building CI CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI or Jenkins

• Proficient in scripting using Bash and Python

• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and enterprise infrastructure design

Preferred Background

• Red Hat or Kubernetes related certifications

• Experience delivering large scale automated infrastructure programmes

• Exposure to enterprise security standards and compliance frameworks

This engagement is suited to a senior platform engineer capable of driving automation first infrastructure transformation across VMware and containerized environments.
