Job Description

Job Scope:
We are seeking a Data Platform Engineer to support and operate our client's on-premise Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) Hadoop platform and Denodo Data Virtualization environment within a highly regulated banking environment.
This role is focused on infrastructure, security, and platform stability, ensuring that all data platform services operate in compliance with enterprise security standards, regulatory requirements, and internal risk controls. The engineer will manage Linux systems, network connectivity, firewalls, authentication mechanisms, certificates, and DNS, while supporting secure and resilient data platform operations.
The engineer is expected to also lead over the engineering team in the day-to-day work as well as governance reporting to management and client.

Key Responsibilities:
Platform Infrastructure & Operations

  • Provide day-to-day infrastructure support for on-premise Hadoop (EDL) and Denodo environments.
  • Manage and maintain Linux-based services supporting data platforms.
  • Perform system validation, health checks, and platform readiness checks.
  • Ensure high availability, stability, and performance of platform services.
  • Support platform upgrades, patches, and configuration changes in collaboration with vendor and internal teams.

Security, Authentication & Access Control

  • Manage authentication and authorization mechanisms (e.g., Kerberos, LDAP/AD integration, service principals).
  • Handle SSL/TLS certificates, including creation, renewal, deployment, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure secure communication across platform components.
  • Support security hardening, vulnerability remediation, and audit readiness activities.

Network & Connectivity Management

  • Configure and troubleshoot firewalls, ports, routing, and network access rules required for Hadoop and Denodo.
  • Manage DNS configuration and resolution for platform services.
  • Diagnose and resolve network-related connectivity issues impacting data platforms

Incident Management & Troubleshooting

  • Investigate and resolve platform incidents, service degradation, and access issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
  • Work closely with application, data engineering, security, and network teams during incidents.
  • Support production, UAT, and lower environments as per operational requirements.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate documentation for system configurations, security settings, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security, risk, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in audits and control reviews when required.

Learning & Platform Enablement

  • Learn Hadoop ecosystem components (e.g., HDFS, YARN, Hive, Ranger, Knox) and Denodo platform architecture on the job.
  • Develop hands-on expertise in data platform infrastructure over time.
  • Contribute to automation and operational improvement initiatives.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3–7 years of experience in Linux / Infrastructure / Platform / Security engineering roles.
  • Excellent hands-on experience with Linux system administration.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, ports, firewalls).
  • Hadoop ecosystem tools knowledge (HDFS, YARN, Hive, Spark, Ranger, Knox).
  • Authentication & security fundamentals (Kerberos/LDAP/AD, SSL/TLS, DNS).
  • Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure platforms in production environments.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Scripting/automation (Bash, Python) experience.
  • Good client-facing experience for day-to-day activities.
  • Proven experience with reporting for trend analysis, and ability to articulate improvement recommendations and/or initiatives for value-add to client and project.

Good to have skills:

  • Exposure to Denodo or other data virtualization platforms.
  • Experience with Kerberos, LDAP / Active Directory integration.
  • Familiarity with enterprise security controls and regulated environments.
  • Understanding of monitoring and alerting tools.
