Database Administrator (Permanent)

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and optimise database systems across multiple platforms. This role involves ensuring high performance, security, and reliability of both on-premise and cloud-based databases, while driving automation and continuous improvements.

Responsibilities

• Implement, configure, and maintain database systems based on technical requirements
• Manage and optimise cloud-based database infrastructure for performance and cost efficiency
• Monitor and improve database performance through tuning, indexing, and query optimisation
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance and system issues across relational and non-relational databases
• Establish and enforce data lifecycle policies, including retention, archival, and deletion
• Develop and manage backup and recovery processes to ensure data integrity and availability
• Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with organisational standards
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on data governance and audit requirements
• Automate routine database administration tasks to improve efficiency
• Support deployment, monitoring, and maintenance through scripting and automation tools

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
• At least 5 years of experience in database administration across multiple environments
• Strong experience with relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g. Cassandra, MongoDB) is an advantage
• Exposure to object storage solutions (e.g. AWS S3, Nutanix Object Store) is a plus
• Knowledge of graph databases (e.g. Neo4j) is preferred
• Strong skills in performance tuning, indexing, and query optimisation
• Experience in data lifecycle management and backup strategies
• Proficiency in scripting or automation tools (e.g. Python, Bash, PowerShell)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
