Power Management System (PMS) Engineer – ABB 800xA

About the Role:

NES Fircroft is hiring a Power Management System (PMS) Engineer for a confidential client involved in mission-critical power infrastructure projects, including data centers, substations, E-Houses, and industrial power systems across Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region.

This role focuses on the engineering, configuration, testing, and commissioning of PMS and substation automation systems, with strong emphasis on ABB 800xA, IEC 61850, GOOSE, and Modbus-based integrations.

The position suits a hands-on engineer who is comfortable working across engineering offices, FAT/SAT environments, and live project sites.

Key Responsibilities:

PMS Engineering & Configuration Design, configure, and implement Power Management System (PMS) applications using ABB 800xA and associated controllers.

Develop and modify PMS logic covering:

  • Generator control and sequencing
  • Load shedding and load restoration
  • Synchronisation and islanding logic
  • Black start and power recovery scenarios
  • Configure and integrate PMS with electrical systems including generators, transformers, switchgear, and protection relays.
  • Substation Automation & Communication
  • Implement and support IEC 61850-based substation automation systems, including:
  • GOOSE messaging
  • MMS communication
  • Substation network architecture and redundancy
  • Integrate PMS and control systems using Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, and other industrial communication protocols.
  • Interface with protection relays, meters, and intelligent electronic devices (IEDs).
  • Testing & Commissioning
  • Prepare and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for PMS and automation systems.


Support site commissioning activities, including:

  • Signal checks and functional testing
  • Protection and control interface verification
  • End-to-end system validation
  • Diagnose and resolve control, communication, and integration issues during commissioning and operation.
  • Documentation & Stakeholder Support
  • Prepare and review engineering documentation, including:
  • Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
  • Control philosophies and logic diagrams
  • Test procedures and commissioning reports
  • Work closely with project managers, electrical engineers, vendors, and clients to ensure technical alignment.
  • Provide technical support during project delivery and handover to operations teams.


Job Requirements:

Education :Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related discipline

Experience:

  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in PMS, control systems, or substation automation
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • ABB 800xA (mandatory)
  • Power Management Systems
  • IEC 61850, including GOOSE and MMS
  • Modbus TCP/IP and Modbus RTU
  • Experience working on data centers, substations, power plants, E-Houses, or industrial facilities is highly preferred

Technical Skills with a Solid understanding of:

  • Power generation and distribution systems
  • Protection and control concepts
  • Electrical interlocking and sequencing logic
  • Familiarity with FAT, SAT, and on-site commissioning practices
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and control drawings
