Job Description

Position objective and summary

  • To provide process and operational technical support for waste acceptance and treatment decisions by translating laboratory data into process feasibility, system impact, and cost evaluation.

Main tasks / activities / responsibilities

1. New Waste Technical Assessment

• Work closely with laboratory Chemists to conduct process-level evaluation of newly received wastewater, liquid waste, or mixed waste streams

• Assess suitable treatment routes and required pre-treatment based on laboratory results (e.g. pH, COD, oil & grease, toxicity, inhibitory substances)

• Evaluate the potential impact of new waste on existing treatment systems, including physico-chemical, biological, and membrane systems

2. Process Analysis & Treatment Strategy Development

• Analyze the feasibility of different treatment options from a process engineering perspective

• Compare alternative process configurations in terms of:

o Treatment performance

o Operational stability

o Chemical and energy consumption

o System risks (e.g. biological shock, scaling, membrane fouling)

• Provide technical recommendations to Operations and Commercial teams to support waste routing and treatment strategy decisions

3. Cost & Operating Parameter Analysis

• Estimate treatment costs based on laboratory results and process conditions, including:

o Chemical consumption

o Power consumption

o Sludge generation

o Membrane usage and replacement

• Analyze the impact of key operating parameters on treatment performance and cost

• Support the development and maintenance of treatment cost models and technical reference databases

4. Process Control & Technical Support

• Provide process-level technical support to plant operations teams

• Participate in abnormal operation analysis (e.g. effluent quality fluctuation, biological inhibition, system overloading)

• Propose process adjustments and mitigation measures to reduce operational risks

5. Documentation & Communication

• Review and consolidate laboratory reports, providing process-based conclusions and recommendations

• Prepare technical evaluation summaries for internal decision-making and external technical communication when required

• Participate in cross-functional discussions involving Laboratory, Operations, and Commercial teams

6. Safety & Compliance

• Ensure that all process recommendations and technical decisions comply with EHS requirements

• Participate in risk assessments for new waste streams and new processes (RA / MOC)

Job requirements (education, linguistic ability, professional experience, leadership qualities, soft skills etc.)

1. Education Background

• Bachelor’s degree or above

• Major in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Applied Chemistry, or related disciplines

2. Working Experience

• 3–7 years of experience in industrial wastewater treatment, hazardous waste treatment, chemical process industries, or related fields

• Experience in one or more of the following is preferred:

o Industrial wastewater process analysis

o Biological treatment systems (Anaerobic / Aerobic / MBR)

o Physico-chemical and advanced oxidation processes

o Onsite technical support or process engineering roles

3. Technical Competency

• Strong process logic and system-level analytical capability

• Ability to translate laboratory data into process decisions and operational recommendations

• Familiarity with common industrial and hazardous waste treatment processes

• Basic cost awareness with the ability to perform qualitative or semi-quantitative cost analysis

4. General Competencies

• Good communication skills with the ability to work across Laboratory, Operations, and Management teams

• Cautious and risk-aware mindset; able to highlight uncertainties and operational risks based on incomplete data

• Willingness and ability to work in a plant / onsite environment
