Database Administration (SQL)

Database Management & Operations

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain relational database systems including Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.

• Manage databases in on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments (AWS RDS, Azure SQL).

• Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of database platforms supporting business-critical systems.

Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery

• Design, implement, and maintain backup and recovery strategies using native tools (SQL Server Agent).

• Test and maintain disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity solutions such as replication, clustering, Multi-AZ, and geo-replication.

• Perform regular restore testing and DR drills to ensure data integrity and recoverability.

Performance Tuning & Monitoring

• Monitor database performance using tools such as OEM Cloud Control, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Performance Insights, and third-party tools.

• Conduct query tuning, index optimization, and execution plan analysis.

• Perform capacity planning and proactively identify performance bottlenecks.

Security & Compliance

• Manage database security by configuring users, roles, privileges, and role-based access control (RBAC).

• Apply regular patches, updates, and security fixes to ensure compliance and system stability.

• Support audit requirements and enforce data protection and confidentiality standards.

Cloud & Migration Support

• Assess on-premises databases for cloud readiness and support migrations to AWS RDS and Azure SQL.

• Manage cloud database features such as read replicas, automated backups, failover, and scaling.

• Support hybrid cloud architectures and data migration initiatives.

Automation & Scripting

• Develop and maintain scripts for automation of backups, monitoring, maintenance, and reporting.

• Schedule and automate routine database maintenance tasks such as integrity checks and statistics updates.

Support & Collaboration

• Provide L1/L2 database support for production and non-production environments.

• Troubleshoot database issues

• Collaborate with application developers on schema design, data modeling, and SQL optimization.

• Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical Skills

• Strong experience with Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.

• Hands-on experience with AWS RDS and Azure SQL Database.

• Expertise in backup, recovery, performance tuning, and database security.

• Knowledge of high availability and DR solutions (replication, Data Guard, clustering).

• Proficiency in SQL scripting and database automation.

• Experience with Unix/Linux system administration.

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

• Relevant certifications are a plus (Oracle OCP, Azure Database Administrator, AWS certifications).
