Operating at the intersection of shipping, IT, and next-generation connectivity, we support shipowners and operators in modernizing vessel operations, improving reliability, and staying ahead of regulatory and cyber requirements.
We are seeking a Network Support Engineer to design, configure, and deploy onboard satellite communications and network systems for our customers’ vessels. This role covers the full lifecycle of connectivity systems, from planning and installation to post-deployment support.
You will work closely with internal project and engineering teams, as well as customers, vessel managers, appointed ship agents, and shipyards, to execute deployments and ensure successful onboard installation and commissioning of connectivity systems.
Job Scope:
1. Design, install, configure, and maintain vessel communication and connectivity systems.
2. Support satellite communication systems including STARLINK, VSAT, Inmarsat, Iridium, and hybrid connectivity solutions.
3. Manage shipboard network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN) and ship-to-shore data links.
4. Monitor and optimise bandwidth usage, latency, and network performance across vessels.
5. Troubleshoot connectivity issues remotely and onboard vessels when required.
6. Ensure network availability, redundancy, and cybersecurity in accordance with maritime standards.
7. Support integration of vessel operational systems (e.g. ECDIS, PMS, CCTV, sensors, IoT).
8. Coordinate with vessel crew, superintendents, shipyards, and service providers for installations and upgrades.
9. Maintain documentation including network diagrams, SOPs, and incident reports.
10. Ensure compliance with IMO, Flag State, Class Society, and company IT/cybersecurity policies.
11. Provide on-call support for vessel connectivity and communication incidents.
Requirements:
1. Physically fit to board vessels for site support (a few days per month); onboard allowance provided.
2. Strong hands-on experience with satellite communications and shipboard network systems.
3. Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, firewalls, and VPNs.
4. Familiarity with maritime communication standards and vessel operational environments.
5. Ability to work independently, manage multiple vessels simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively.
6. Willingness to work outside of regular office hours, including nights, weekends, or public holidays, to attend vessels or provide remote support.
7. Excellent troubleshooting, coordination, and communication skills, with the ability to liaise with internal teams and vessel personnel.
