Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent (Tankers) to join our Fleet Management team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical management of assigned oil / chemical tanker vessels, ensuring full compliance with statutory, Class, charterer, and company requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily tanker vessel performance related to safety, technical condition, cargo operations, and voyage efficiency through fleet reporting systems.
  • Ensure compliance with Flag State, Port State, Class, ISM, MARPOL, and tanker-specific regulations.
  • Maintain vessels’ Class and statutory certification status, including surveys, CMS, and Conditions of Class.
  • Oversee Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS) and optimize maintenance schedules to ensure cost efficiency and minimum off-hire.
  • Coordinate and manage repairs, spare parts, stores, and lubrication requisitions for tanker machinery and cargo systems.
  • Prepare vessels for SIRE / CDI inspections, vetting, audits, and third-party inspections.
  • Conduct periodic tanker vessel inspections and submit technical condition reports to management.
  • Plan, prepare, and attend dry dockings, including specification preparation, budgeting, execution, and post-docking reporting.
  • Monitor vessel fuel, lubricating oil, and cargo system performance, including consumption trends and inventory control.
  • Control vessel technical expenditure in accordance with approved budgets.
  • Provide technical support to vessels and arrange shore repair assistance when required.
  • Evaluate the technical performance of shipboard engineering officers and ratings.
  • Vet engineering officer applicants and brief senior officers joining tanker vessels.
  • Support insurance claims, warranty matters, and charterer disbursement reviews.
  • Act as a member of the Emergency Response Team for tanker-related incidents.

Qualifications & Experience

  • COC Class I (Chief Engineer – Tanker Experience).
  • Minimum seagoing experience as Chief Engineer on oil and/or chemical tankers; shore-based technical management experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of tanker machinery, cargo systems, Class rules, PMS, and dry docking.
  • Familiarity with OCIMF, SIRE 2.0, CDI, ISGOTT, ISM Code, and HSEMS.
  • Sound understanding of MARPOL and tanker environmental compliance.
  • Strong communication, reporting, and coordination skills.
  • Willingnessto travel for vessel inspections, vetting preparation, and dry dockings.
