Job Description
YOUR POSITION WITH TNC
TNC Asia Pacific is building a pipeline of high-integrity Nature Based Solutions and carbon projects to be supported by a new Singapore-based team. We are investing in feasibility assessments and transaction readiness to originate and accelerate high-quality nature-basedcarbon projects in Asia Pacific and beyond, including a particular focus on Article 6-aligned nature-based projects in countries with Singapore implementation agreements.
The Carbon Technical Specialist will apply scientific rigor to the implementation of TNC’s Article 6 Catalyst (A6C)— a new program of work designed to help countries access high-integrity carbon finance under the Paris Agreement. The Accelerator aims to strengthen enabling environments, build institutional capacity, and catalyze investment in nature-based mitigation aligned with Article 6 principles. The Technical Specialist will also support other priority nature-based solutions projects within Asia-Pacific as appropriate.
This role directly contributes to TNC’s mission to scale nature‑based solutions, strengthen enabling environments, and catalyze investment in nature‑based mitigation aligned with Article 6 principles across Asia Pacific and beyond.
The role is a 3-year fixed term to be based in Singapore. There is no sponsorship for relocation or support for immigration or visa processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Carbon Technical Specialist, Article 6 Catalyst, serves as a trusted advisor and technicalresource to field programs worldwide in planning, designing, and implementing high‑integrity carbon projects. The Specialist applies cross‑disciplinary knowledge to inform strategic decisions and advance TNC’s global climate and conservation goals. They lead feasibility assessments and project design; manage scientific inputs including carbon accounting and biodiversity studies;and design fit‑for‑purpose Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) frameworks and systems to ensure transparency, performance, and adaptive management.
The Specialist will provide technical support to guarantee that projects meet TNC’s criteria for high-quality, high-integrity carbon credits. They apply science and spatial analysis to support feasibility assessments, baseline setting, carbon stock estimation, leakage and risk mapping, biodiversity assessments, and monitoring; and may engage with Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) to support validation and verification processes, facilitating exchanges of findings and responses with VVBs and carbon standards.
The role reports to the Associate Director for Climate Strategy, Asia-Pacific, with day-to-day supervision through the A6C Project Manager in Singapore in alignment with an agreed team structure. This role will collaborate with both TNC staff globally and partner organizations to Bring promising ideas to fruition, helping to address the triple crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and equitable development.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
· Technical Project Leadership: Designs, implements and directs complex and diverse nature-based carbon projects across multiple geographies and stakeholder groups – from feasibility through development and implementation.
· Strategic Technical Integration: Provides strategic analysis and technical guidance to inform climate and conservation strategies; makes strategic decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
· MEL Leadership and design: Develops and operationalizes robust MEL frameworks integrating quantitative and qualitative indicators to measure outcomes, inform adaptivemanagement, and meet donor / partner reporting requirements.
· MRV Design: Leads the design of MRV systems aligned with high-quality standards to ensure integrity of carbon accounting, monitoring and biodiversity plans, and verification-ready documentation.
· GIS and Spatial Analytics: Creates and manages geospatial datasets and maps; conducts spatial analyses (e.g. land-use change, carbon stock modelling, leakage risk) to informproject design, monitoring and reporting.
· Tool Development & Optimization: Design, develop, and support the creation of essential applications, guidelines, templates, and tools to streamline and enhance the evaluation, feasibility assessment, design, and development phases of nature-based carbon credit projects.
· Standard & Methodology Selection: Guide project teams in selecting and applying the most appropriate high-quality carbon standards and methodologies to ensure project integrity, policy alignment and maximize the impact of carbon credits.
· Coordinate with multiple teams: Coordinate across complex and diverse carbon projects encompassing multiple geographies and/or organizations for joint proposal development, project execution etc. Often requiring cooperation of colleagues with no direct supervisory authority.
· Capacity Building & Training: Facilitate knowledge transfer and build internal and external stakeholder capacity through technical training, presentations, and ongoing support for TNC global, regional, and local teams.
