Senior Microsoft SQL DBA

Responsibilities:

• Conduct database assessment and compatibility checks for migration from Microsoft SQL Server 2016 to Azure SQL Managed Instance
• Review existing database architecture, storage usage, performance characteristics, and dependencies
• Define the migration strategy, sequencing, and cutover approach
• Prepare and validate migration scripts, procedures, and rollback plans
• Ensure database configuration alignment with GCC and Azure SQL Managed Instance requirements
• Identify migration risks and recommend mitigation measures
• Plan and execute one or more trial (test) database migrations to Azure SQL Managed Instance
• Validate data integrity, application compatibility, performance, and operational readiness following each trial migration
• Identify and remediate issues arising from trial migrations prior to final cutover
• Refine migration approach and procedures based on trial migration outcomes
• Lead and execute the migration of the DMS database (approximately 3TB of data) to Azure SQL Managed Instance
• Perform schema, data, and database object migration
• Ensure data integrity, consistency, and minimal service downtime during migration
• Support cutover execution and immediate post-cutover stabilisation
• Troubleshoot and resolve migration-related issues promptly
• Perform post-migration validation, reconciliation, and performance tuning

Professional Experience:

• Proven experience as a Database Administrator supporting enterprise-scale systems
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL Server migration projects, preferably involving migration to Azure SQL Managed Instance
• Experience handling large-scale databases (multi-terabyte environments) is highly preferred
• Prior experience supporting government, public sector, or regulated environments is an advantage

Technical Competency:

• Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting;
• Database migration planning, execution, and validation
• Backup, restore, recovery, and high availability configurations
• Familiarity with Azure SQL Managed Instance architecture, limitations, and optimisation practices
• Understanding of security controls, access management, and audit considerations related to database systems
