Senior Database Administrator

Role Details

Support and lead the migration of an enterprise Document Management System (DMS) database from Microsoft SQL Server 2016 (on-prem) to Azure SQL Managed Instance (GCC 2.0), ensuring data integrity, security compliance (IM8), minimal downtime, and successful cutover.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct database assessment, compatibility checks, and migration readiness activities

• Define migration approach including sequencing, cutover strategy, rollback planning

• Execute trial migrations and validate integrity, performance, and application compatibility

• Lead final migration & cutover of an approx. 3TB database

• Perform post-migration validation, reconciliation, troubleshooting, and tuning

• Provide DBA inputs for security/compliance (IM8) including access controls, encryption, audit logging, and backup strategy

• Support knowledge transfer and documentation for internal operational handover

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on DBA experience supporting enterprise SQL Server environments

• Proven delivery of SQL Server → Azure SQL Managed Instance migrations

• Expertise in:

  • Performance tuning and troubleshooting

  • Backup/restore/recovery and high availability

  • Migration scripting, validation, rollback procedures

• Experience in regulated / public sector / government environments is an advantage

• Strong documentation and stakeholder communication skills
