Job Description
The L2 AWS Cloud Engineer is responsible for the proactive management,
troubleshooting, and optimization of enterprise-scale AWS environments. You will act
as a primary technical escalation point for critical incidents, manage complex CI/CD
deployments, and ensure that client infrastructures are secure, cost-effective, and
performant. This role requires a blend of deep technical AWS knowledge, "sysops"
mindset, and the ability to communicate effectively with enterprise stakeholders.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
• Incident & Problem Management
• Enterprise Troubleshooting: Serve as the L2 escalation point for complex
• infrastructure issues (e.g., networking bottlenecks, RDS performance
• degradation, or IAM permission conflicts).
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Lead the investigation into recurring incidents to
• identify underlying issues and implement permanent fixes.
• SLA Compliance: Ensure all incidents and service requests are resolved
• within the agreed-upon Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• On-Call Support: Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to handle high-priority
• (P1/P2) enterprise production outages.
2. Deployment & Change Management
• CI/CD Pipeline Management: Manage and troubleshoot deployment pipelines
• using tools like AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, or GitLab CI/CD.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Maintain and update infrastructure using
• Terraform or CloudFormation to ensure environment consistency.
• Patching & Upgrades: Plan and execute OS-level patching (Linux/Windows)
• and AWS resource upgrades (e.g., RDS minor version upgrades) with minimal
• downtime.
3. Managed Services Operations
• Monitoring & Observability: Configure and manage CloudWatch dashboards,
• alarms, and logs. Fine-tune alerts to reduce "alert fatigue" while maintaining
• 100% visibility.
• Cost Optimization: Regularly review Trusted Advisor and Cost Explorer to
• recommend and implement rightsizing, Reserved Instances (RIs), or Savings
• Plans.
• Security & Compliance: Implement and audit security groups, NACLs, and
• IAM policies. Ensure environments align with Well-Architected Framework
• standards.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
• AWS Core Services: Deep expertise in EC2, S3, VPC (VPN/Direct Connect),
• RDS, Lambda, Route 53, and ELB.
• Automation/IaC: Strong proficiency in Terraform (preferred) or
• CloudFormation.
• Scripting: Hands-on experience with Python or Bash for task automation.
• OS Administration: Strong Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) and Windows Server
• administration/troubleshooting skills.
• Networking: Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, SSL/TLS, and Load Balancing
• patterns.
• Containers: Experience managing Amazon ECS or EKS (Kubernetes) is a major plus.

• AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate (Required)
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (Highly Desirable)
