Database Administrator

Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Database Administrator to manage and support enterprise database environments across both cloud and on-premises platforms. This role focuses on ensuring database availability, performance stability, and data integrity while supporting operational activities such as backups, patching, and monitoring.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working across multiple database technologies and collaborating with infrastructure and application teams to maintain a resilient data platform.

Key Responsibilities

Database Operations & Monitoring

• Monitor database performance, availability, and overall system health across environments
• Review alerts, logs, and system metrics to proactively identify potential issues
• Ensure databases are operating within defined SLA and performance thresholds

Backup, Recovery & DR Support

• Perform and validate backup and restore activities in line with operational requirements
• Ensure backup jobs are completed successfully and meet retention policies
• Support disaster recovery testing and validate data restoration processes

Maintenance & Optimization

• Execute routine database maintenance including indexing, statistics updates, and housekeeping tasks
• Apply patches, updates, and minor version upgrades to maintain system stability and security
• Assist in identifying performance bottlenecks and support tuning activities

Access & Security Management

• Manage database users, roles, and access permissions based on governance policies
• Ensure compliance with security standards and access control requirements

Troubleshooting & Support

• Investigate and resolve database connectivity issues between applications and backend systems
• Support incident resolution and escalate complex technical issues when required
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and storage teams during troubleshooting

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate database documentation, configurations, and SOPs
• Generate regular health and performance reports for operational review
• Track and document incidents, changes, and improvements

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
• Hands on experience with databases such as MSSQL, Oracle, Azure SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or cloud managed databases (e.g. Alibaba RDS)
• Good understanding of database backup, recovery, and replication concepts
• Familiarity with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization basics
• Experience in managing database access control and security practices
• Exposure to cloud database platforms and hybrid environments is an advantage
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Ability to work in a structured operations environment with SLA driven support
• Good communication skills and ability to work with cross functional teams
